Signing of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Government of Hungary on the Exchange and Mutual Protection of Classified Information

The Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Government of Hungary on the Exchange and Mutual Protection of Classified Information was signed on 22 January 2016 following negotiations in the context of international activities in the field of bilateral agreements on the protection of classified information and in accordance with Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia no. 02205-4/2014/8 of 2 October 2014.

It was signed by the Director of the Slovenian National Security Authority, Mr Boris Mohar, and the Hungarian Ambassador to Slovenia, Ms Edit Szilágyiné Bátorfi, at Brdo pri Kranju in the margins of the working visit by the Hungarian Government.

The said Agreement replaces the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Government of the Republic of Hungary on the Protection of Classified Defence Information and Assets that was signed on 5 October 1998 and used to govern the exchange of such information. Recently concluded agreements regulate more comprehensively the exchange and protection of classified information.

The Agreement provides a legal basis for the implementation of tasks entrusted to national agencies that in the course of their work exchange classified information with their counterparts in other countries. It also enables Slovenian companies to enter into business contracts involving the exchange of classified information.
